OUR MISSION

  GreyHeart Greyhound Rescue and Adoption of Michigan is devoted to the rescue and adoption of the retired racing greyhound. It is our objective to place as many greyhounds as possible into responsible, loving homes and educate the public regarding the suffering and consequences of greyhound racing.

OUR FOCUS

  Tens of thousands of greyhound puppies are born into the racing industry every year, thousands are cast aside just months into life. At 18 months of age the survivors who have demonstrated the potential to make money for their owners will be sent to race tracks across the country. On average, each racetrack supplies cage space for about 1000 greyhounds, a dozen or so kennel buildings each hold 60-80 dogs. The goal of every kennel is to keep a constant supply of money making dogs available for racing. Some kennel owners will hold onto failed racers but for most---it's strictly business. This is the point that puts the lives of hundreds of greyhounds in peril day in and day out. Despite the best efforts of adoption groups throughout the country, thousands of gentle, beautiful greyhounds are killed or sold for medical experimentation.

OUR OPERATION

  We are a registered, non profit 501(c)3 organization, supported only thru donations and fund raising efforts. Because the welfare of the racing greyhound is compromised at every turn for financial gain by the racing industry, Greyheart does not accept greyhound industry funding.  We believe to support a system of greyhound exploitation and abuse to which we are steadfastly opposed, would undermine our mission.  We are not affiliated with any race track or racing organization and do not condone the greyhound racing industry. The donation received through the placement of each dog, pays for the transportation and medical costs.

  We also rely heavily on the efforts of our volunteers.  Without their assistance, especially the work of those willing to foster, we could not accomplish our goal.  If YOU are willing to participate, please contact us.
